Dr. Bansal, Cataract Specialist
Dr. S. L. Bansal has a rich experience of more than 45 years in the field of ophthalmology. He specializes in Phaco (no-stitch, modern cataract surgery) and in treating an eye disorder called squint.
Education
He completed his MBBS in the year 1975 from the Government Medical College, Patiala. After his MBBS, he completed MS from the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education & Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, and he received the degree in the year 1979.
Fellowships
In the year 1984, he completed a fellowship associated with contact lenses. He completed fellowship specializing in squint in 1992 and trained for Phaco in the year 1999.
Awards
He won a Silver Medal in MS, and also a fellowship In Rotary. He also won the Life Time Health Achievement Award and the Best Partner Initiative Award. Over the course of his medical practice, he has guided and treated a large number of patients suffering from various eye ailments.

Dr. S. L. Bansal has spent over four decades pioneering modern eye care in Jagadhri and the surrounding Yamunanagar region. Many advances that are now standard practice were first brought here by Dr. Bansal himself:
- Stitchless Glaucoma Surgery — 2004
Performed stitchless (sutureless) glaucoma surgery, reducing procedure time and improving patient comfort during recovery. - Manual Phaco for Cataract — 2003
Adopted manual small-incision cataract surgery techniques, offering safer, faster-recovery alternatives to traditional methods. - Yag Laser to Cut “Jhilli” / After-Cataract — 2003
Introduced Yag laser capsulotomy for treating post-cataract membrane clouding (commonly known locally as “jhilli”), a quick, non-invasive outpatient procedure. - Squint Check Camps — Since 2003
Launched free squint-screening camps, an initiative that continues today, focused on early detection in children. - Phaco-Emulsification Surgery — 1999
Brought phacoemulsification cataract surgery to the region, using ultrasound technology for smaller incisions and faster patient recovery. - Auto-Ref with Eye Specialist — 1997
Introduced auto-refractometry under specialist supervision, allowing faster and more precise vision testing. - Ophthalmic Chair to Ease the Patient — 1997
Installed a dedicated ophthalmic examination chair, making eye exams more comfortable, especially for elderly and long-duration patients. - Vertical Squint Surgery — 1996/1997
One of the earliest to perform vertical squint correction surgery in the area, expanding treatment options for complex eye alignment issues. - Full-Fledged Contact Lens Clinic — 1987
Set up a dedicated contact lens clinic, bringing specialized fitting and care services to patients who previously had no local access to this. - Intra-Ocular Lens (IOL) Surgery — 1986
Among the first in the region to offer IOL implantation, giving cataract patients a lasting alternative to thick glasses after surgery. - Public Education — Booklet on Eyecare
Published an eyecare awareness booklet for patients and the community, part of the hospital’s early commitment to preventive education. - Seminars on Headache, Cataract Awareness, Spectacles, PHACO, and Optical Perfection (continuing)

Dr. S.L.
